Oral Fluid Collector Training (DOT Qualified)

Overview

An  collector is a person who instructs and assists employees at a collection site, who receives and makes an initial inspection of the specimen provided by those employees, and who initiates and completes the Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF). The collector is the one individual in the drug testing process who has direct, face to face contact with the employee.  Without the oral fluid collector ensuring the integrity of the oral fluid specimen and collection process, the test itself may lose credibility.

The procedure for collecting an oral fluid specimen as outlined in 49 CFR Part 40 is very specific and must be followed whenever a DOT-required oral fluid specimen collection is performed. These procedures, including the use of the CCF, apply only to DOT-required testing.

As a reminder, only when there are two HHS certified oral fluid laboratories may an employer begin to use oral fluid drug testing in the DOT drug testing program.

Your certification, after successful completion of this course, will be supplied by Leslie Beery/ITSA and this is a provisional certification that will go into effect when the 2nd lab is approved. At that time the clock will start for your 5 year refresher and re-certification.

Good Luck!
